The importance of Cyber Security

A cyber security incident can have devastating impacts on both individuals and businesses. These impacts are seen every day from the way in which individuals and families are impacted through to large scale attacks which impact entire organisations and their customers.

Over the 2020/21 financial years the ACSC (Australian Cyber Security Centre) received over 67,500 cybercrime reports. This is an increase of over 13% from the previous financial year. This equates to an incident being reported every 8 minutes. These statistics are even more alarming when you consider that many cyber security incidents go unreported.

Cybercriminal activity is becoming increasingly complex and sophisticated creating the urgent need for consumers to respond by being prepared for these incidents. It is important for individuals and businesses to be able to:

  • Identify threats
  • Understand threats
  • Take action in response to threats
  • Recover from cyber incidents

This course will help you to become more cyber security aware and provide you with some simple steps that you can take to help protect your personal and financial information online. For businesses this extends to keeping your customers personal and financial information secure, as well as protecting business assets and safeguarding the business’s reputation.
